Here are some terms you may encounter in your research:

  • Brand Asset Management (BAM): The management of digital image, print, and graphics files, often within corporate marketing departments.
  • Content Management (CM): The management of rich media, graphics, text, and proxy image files primarily for web sites; also for inclusion on CDs and DVDs.

    Digital Asset Management (DAM): An umbrella term for the management of rich media digital assets across information systems, normally from their conception through creation to distribution and archiving.
  • Enterprise content management (ECM): The management of enterprise content across a broad range of applications and platforms including financial records, email records, legal contracts, rich media, graphics, audio, and virtually any digital file that can be considered an important “asset” that should be tracked.
  • Information life cycle management (ILCM): Long-term preservation of data and information
  • Media Asset Management (MAM): The management of digital audio and digital video materials and associated production materials (scripts, EDLs, outtake footage, etc.), including the ability to view, play, associate media rights with, and edit digital files.
